Ugly Betty

 
An adaption of the Colombia telenovela Betty la fea ("Betty the Ugly"), Ugly Betty is an American comedy drama series which made its debut on September 28, 2006. The telenovela has been successfully translated in Mexico, India, Russia, Greece and Germany since then. The series revolves around the life and experiences of Betty Suarez, an intelligent, hardworking and talented girl with only one dream to make a career in publishing business.

Betty gets her break when she is hired by publisher Bradford Meade, as an assistant to his son Daniel, the newly appointed editor of the high-fashion “Mode” magazine. She steps into a world where looks and figure is considered everything and wafer thin beauties rule the roost. The problem is that Betty is neither thin nor is she glamorous and good looking. This is precisely the reason behind her appointment as Bradford Meade is sure that his womanizing son would never sleep with her. Thrust into an alien world, Betty finds strength from her support system consisting of her her father Ignacio, her sister, Hilda, her fellow employee and friend Christina. Betty and Daniel slowly learn to trust each other as she helps him out of many tight spots and gradually they become friends and allies in a world which could be ravishing and chaotic all at once.
